A Tour of Boise’s Parks: Julia Davis

This past week, my girlfriend and I have tried to hit a new park every day Monday through Friday. We found some great new places to hang out at during the weekend. One of my favorite places we stopped at was Julia Davis Park. It is on S Capital Boulevard, and W Battery Street.
There are tons of trees and picnic benches there, meaning plenty of shade and space. There are also two museums nearby, the Idaho Historical Museum, and the Idaho Black History Museum. It is right across the street from the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, which is a great place to visit. We stopped by there first and looked around. It is a great memorial that is also a little sad.
The day we went was very nice, so my girlfriend and I invited six of our friends to come with us. We brought a large picnic with us and feasted on chips, sandwiches, and Pepsi. One of our favorite things to do when we get together as friends is to play Frisbee Golf. Frisbee Golf (also called Disk Golf) is very similar to normal golf, only you use a Frisbee instead of a golf ball, and you are aiming for a Disk Pole Hole. Julia Davis Park doesn’t have an actual Frisbee Golf course, so we brought along our own Disk Pole Holes and made our own.
You can find these Pole Holes online, and maybe even at a local sports store. If you are interested in playing, you can find the rules online. I’m pretty sure there are some places in Boise where there are actual competitions, but my friends and I just play for fun.
We didn’t play for too long, as it was getting later and the temperatures were rising (above one hundred.) I won, and my friends Kim and Steve came in second and third. We went and checked out the Rose Garden, which is near the center of the park. It is very pretty there and great if you enjoy walking around and looking at the flowers. It is also a great place to take pictures.
A very fun aspect of Julia Davis Park is their rentable paddle boats. They are cool little boats, sitting two (three if you have a child) people, and are propelled through the water by pedaling. Paddle boats run from 11:00 – 6:30 and costs $8 for a half hour ride and $12 for an hour ride. We split up into groups of two and had fun riding through the pond. It’s actually a pretty large pond for the amount of money you pay. It would be a great place to go if you are taking someone on a date (Try taking your date on a picnic or to one of the nearby restaurants, and then take them on the paddle boats as the sun is setting. The ladies really like this guys!) Just try not to spill anything on your date. My girlfriend got her lemonade on the both of us during our paddle boat trek, and it was hardly romantic.
