Staycation in Boise Idaho

Summer is in full swing. The sun is blazing, the sky is cloudless, the heat is on. Time to head out the door for our vacation! We’re not going far this year. Nope, not us. Instead of leaving town to explore new sights and wonders, we’re going to stay local — it’s our staycation! What’s a staycation, you ask? Instead of leaving home, we stay home and explore our community in either day trips out or quick jaunts in the morning or afternoon. Some folks take a week off and staycate, others do it over several weekends. Here are some ideas for your next staycation:
- Explore the Rose Garden.
- Visit the Lake Lowell dam.
- Hike Shaw Mountain.
- Float the Boise River.
- Stop in at the Capitol Building.
- Go to the zoo.
- Visit Eagle Island State Park.
- Be inspired at the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial.
- Get a history lesson from the lamposts.
And if you would like to see more ideas as you plan your staycation, visit boise.onethousandthingstodo.com.

We are having fun documenting our staycations! Join us Fridays at http://wearestorytellers.typepad.com
Have you seen the capitol lately? Its completely under construction and closed down, has been for quite some time now. Seeing that you posted this article on July 14th of this year, you should try getting downtown sometime and hang out with the rest of us…
Thank you to Jeremy for highlighting the fact that the capitol building is indeed closed currently for construction, as stated at the beginning and end of the post. Even with all the scaffolding and so forth, the building is still an impressive sight to view from the perimeter. Once it is complete, it will be great to do another post about the “new” capitol.
We welcome and encourage comments to any of our posts, so please “come on in” and help us make this site an interactive community.
