Chilling Out at the Caldwell Pool

A couple of weeks ago I was starting to worry that the weather was going stay unseasonably cool all summer, and that swimming lessons would be bone-chilling, rather than a refreshing respite from SW Idaho’s summer heat. With the temperature suddenly soaring into the nineties, however, those daily trips have been welcomed.
Caldwell Municipal Pool is a nice place to be in the summer, whether as a student in one of their five sessions of lessons, or as someone enjoying open swim hours on a hot afternoon. We always sign our kids up for lessons, and since one of them is still in the toddler (parent/child) level, either my husband or I get to go in too. All of the lesson sessions, except for the last one, are two weeks long and run from the beginning of June to the beginning of August. All classes are Red Cross Certified and cover eight different levels. For those of any age who want to use the pool for body toning, increasing cardio-vascular strength, etc, an aquatic exercise class is also offered.

If you just want to play, open swim hours are from 1:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 on weekdays, and 1:00-6:00 on weekends. Prices are very affordable and season passes are also available.

The pool is kid-friendly with a good-sized shallow section. Two slides, one in the somewhat shallow section and one in the deep end provide fun for all. There is also a diving board for those who enjoy such things–this does not include me so this year I plan to make sure my husband goes in on diving board day. With any luck, I won’t have to silently face my fears and pretend I’m not petrified to walk to the end of the oh-so-narrow and very bouncy poolside precipice so that my kids will do what they are supposed to do for lessons!

Lounging deck chairs are provided for hanging out at the edge of the pool. Two large canopies provide shade over a section on each side of the pool, where there are chairs and a couple of picnic-style tables as well for anyone just watching the fun and frivolity of those in the pool. Even with shade, however, it’s REALLY hot and much more pleasant to actually be in the water.
On our hot summer days, what better way to cool of than with a splash in a nice cool pool. The Caldwell Pool is a great option, so slap on a little sunscreen and dive on in–the water’s fine!
