Veteran’s Memorial Park-Boise

The day after our almost disastrous date night we decided to go to a place that the plans couldn’t go awry at. So we so carefully chose the Veteran’s Memorial Park. And indeed nothing did go wrong. Because who could possibly mess up visiting a park they’d never been too or hadn’t in years? First off it was much easier to find, almost. This time we actually had directions written down, but we did have to take the scenic route first and this time it wasn’t because of bad directions we just missed a sign that I failed to mention.

When we did arrive we found parking easily and realized quickly that it was much bigger than we anticipated. the playground with lots of kids The first thing we saw was a big green playground that looked like it was really fun to play on. There were lots of children enjoying the large playground, with room for a lot more children, it was so big! After making quick use of the easy to find restroom, we ventured forth.

the miniture wooden stadium

We walked on one of the many allotted paths and soon found ourselves looking at a huge stadium-like wood structure with polls in certain places that were built into a small hill. Andrew said when he was little he and his friends would play a game that consisted of trying to jump on the wood and not step on the stone. Andrew won and I failed miserably.
the cat that we saw and kind of played with.
We jumped around for a good fifteen minutes and then continued on the path. There we saw a black cat that had strayed away from its home running and playing in the tall weeds. Andrew threw pine cones at it, to get its attention so we could get a good shot of it. Not surprisingly, Andrew had bad aim and some horrible throws. None hit the cat but he did scurry away after the fifth time.

the bridge that was jagged with the split tree.

After we scared off the cat we saw a jagged bridge by a tree that had split into two trees. It was really cool to look at and made the bridge look even more authentic. The bridge itself looked really old, and was made entirely out of wood. It had a strange kind of zigzag design, with a large area in the middle to look out upon a valley of what we guessed would become cats tails when they let the water in to turn the area into a nice duck pond.

We discovered that the veterans Memorial Park was connected to the Green Belt at the North end, where we saw a group of people grilling and enjoying the spring warmth. After a quick look at the paths going along a canal, leading to the river, and continuing off into the trees on either side, we decided to save the greenbelt path for another time.

Veterans Memorial Park is so large that we were there for a good 2 hours exploring and didn’t even make it to the south side, perhaps some other time!
