Lucky Peak Park, Boise Idaho

the park with treesAfter we spent time gazing at the gushing Lucky Peak Dam we decided to head towards the park which was pretty big and not that far away from where the dam was located. There where tons of people there sitting on benches and lounging in the grass. Most of them where barbecuing and having what looked to me to be a jolly good time.

Andrew asked me if I had any shorts and I mistook him and thought he meant if I had shorts in the car, but he corrected himself and said no if I had any at home. I asked him why it would matter and he said it’d be impossible for me to partially swim in the water with pants on. I was bummed, but then decided I could just roll them up.
We spent a lot of time dipping our feet into the freezing water that was easily accessed by the tiny quite pathetic beaches on the park side.

The majority of the beach looked like it was under water thanks in part to the river/dam being so high. I didn’t like sticking my feet in the water at all because it took a while for warmth to get back into my feet. It reminded me of going swimming at a camp I used to go to in the mountains and in the mornings the bravest kids would go polar bear swimming; though I never joined in I’m pretty sure the temperature was the same as it was in the Lucky Peak Dam.
kids playing by the little beach

where our shoes where by the smallest beach

There were a lot of kids playing by the little beaches. We couldn’t exactly tell what game they playing but still they looked like they were having a blast!

After warming and halfway drying our feet and at the same time trying to get the sand from in between our toes completely out, we sat on a bench and just hung out for a while. We looked out at the trees and I suddenly wished I had worn a tank top and capris because it was way too hot for anything else. It definitely wasn’t hot enough to jump into the water; which we couldn’t anyway because it wasn’t allowed; if so then it’d have to be at least a hundred and twenty degrees till I’d consider jumping in.
lady reading her book in a secluded area
Putting our shoes back on, we walked around and enjoyed the almost quite atmosphere of the outdoors. There was a lady reading on a comfortable bench, seemingly secluded from anyone else with a backdrop of trees providing her with shade. She looked totally relaxed and I was slightly jealous because that’s what I’d come out doors to do if I had a chance to be comfortable and completely relaxed instead of reading indoors.

We started to walk back to the car that was far away. We took our time though it looked as if it could rain on us any minute. We weren’t worried about that because it was hot enough the rain would have been a nice respite. I was really thirsty so we went to the closest water fountain, but it had a delayed reaction that would have lasted a lifetime so we finally gave up after five minutes.
the rocks where people had written their names on
Still thirsty we walked passed a dad and son playing football. It was nice moment to watch. We diverted our attention to the rocky hills where cars were parked and saw that some people had been brave enough to write or spray their names on the top of the rocks where people could read them. Most of them where white and stuck out more than the rest. We crossed the road and hoped we wouldn’t be run over and made it to the car before it started to rain.
