One of the many butterflies in the Butterfly Exhibit at the Boise Zoo.If you are looking for a way to spend some quality time with your family without breaking the bank, then take a trip to the Boise Zoo. Located in Julia Davis Park in downtown Boise this small, but diverse zoo offers all you need to have an eventful day with your family.

The sloth bear at the Boise Zoo is one of the many animals that attract visitors. A meerkat is one of the unique animals that lives in the Boise Zoo.

The Boise Zoo is home to over 200 different animals and soon will feature a new 3.5 acre African Plains exhibit that will introduce giraffes and other African animals to zoo patrons. Currently the zoo cares for a variety of different animals that include a red panda, a Komodo dragon, Amur tigers, Magellanic penguins, and even a family of meerkats. One of the newest additions to the zoo’s family is a baby Gibbon.

The Amur tiger at the Boise Zoo is right in the middle of the zoo and often paces in front of his enclosure.

The zoo is open year round with the exception of major holidays and even offers year long zoo memberships. Membership benefits include free admission to the Boise Zoo, reduced price admission to other participating zoos around the United States, and best of all, the money you spend goes back into the zoo’s educational programs, zoo improvement projects, and animal conservation.

The zoo offers many different events throughout the year along with some rotating exhibits. On my family’s last visit we were able to go into a butterfly exhibit, where butterflies of every shape, color, and size rested on foliage, flew past our heads, and even came to rest on our clothes. These interactive educational exhibits are one of the things that make this zoo great. The animals and exhibits aren’t the only attractions in the zoo though. Children are delighted by the different play areas throughout the zoo that include a carousel and a playground.

The carousel is one of the many children's attractions available at the Boise Zoo. The Boise Zoo has many hands on activies and play structures for children.

After your visit to the zoo you can enjoy some of the other things that Julia Davis Park has to offer including the Black History Museum, theBoise Art Museum and the beautiful Rose Garden. Take a look at the zoo’s website, www.zooboise.org, where you will find a calendar of events along with information on how you can help to support the zoo and its animals.
